Happy President's Day!

This year I have been teaching a class of rambunctious Kindergarteners... I have 16 of them, and they keep me on my toes all day, everyday! Recently, I have challenged myself to go out of my comfort zone; to go out of what I think my students are capable of doing. One of those things is to take them to the computer lab, and to incorporate Word Processing skills into their Writer's Workshop time. Alas, they not only surprised me, but themselves as well. The following shows the process and the product.

We have been studying about the different presidents, and also about writing friendly letters. I decided to integrate the two... Our goal: to write letters to President Obama for President's Day. First, we brainstormed the content of the letter.

Then, the students went off to write their own letters.

Finally, we went to the computer lab, and they each had to type out their letters to President Obama.

It has been a slow, but rewarding process. The kids are all very excited! Hopefully, we'll hear from Mr. President soon...
